On November 25th, 2019, Jon conducted a training seminar on behalf of Optum at the British Consulate in Shanghai. The title of the event was ‘Building Resilience’ and explored several pathways to establishing and maintaining resilience.

At several points during the event, attendees were given opportunities to discuss and share their thoughts on a variety of topics including their relationship towards exercise, their susceptibility to cognitive distortions (e.g. all-or-nothing thinking), and how to reframe ‘failure’. Viewers are welcome to try the activities for themselves by pausing the video (embedded below) at the appropriate time. The event also featured a short mindfulness exercise that viewers can follow along with.

Highlights

  • Defining resilience and understanding its importance
  • Understanding what you can control (and what you can’t)
  • Four pillars (physical, cognitive, social, emotional) of resilience
  • Understanding the role of stress
  • Going beyond resilience
